Youth Advisory Council (WCYAC)

Our 13 council members have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in leadership, civic engagement, and public policy. They advance equity for young women and girls statewide by:

1. Working with the Youth Ambassador, Commissioners, and staff to help shape policies and programs.
2. Sharing your lived experiences to inform decisions affecting young people across Washington.
3. Meeting with state leaders and advocate for issues that matter to your community.
4. Participating in public hearings, community events, and meetings.

All interested youth ages 14-22 who live in Washington and identify as a girl or young woman can apply! You don’t need previous government or advocacy experience. We’re looking for curiosity, commitment, and a willingness to learn.

We especially encourage youth who live in rural communities, cities, and towns outside of the I-5 corridor, disabled and neurodivergent youth, and youth of diverse racial and ethnic identities are encouraged to apply.

WCYAC members may choose a 1, 2, or 3-year term. The Council is designed to fit alongside school, work, family, and extracurricular commitments. Council members are expected to commit 4-8 hours each month, including virtual meetings.

As a statewide council, members will primarily meet virtually and collaborate digitally, with opportunities to meet in person. Associated travel costs will be covered by the commission.
