Governor Ferguson Signs Proclamation Recognizing March 2025 as Women's History Month in Washington
WHEREAS, the national theme for Women’s History Month in 2025 is “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations”, which celebrates the collective strength and transformative influence of women who have dedicated their lives to education, mentorship, leadership, and community; and
WHEREAS, Along with countless efforts to build a more equitable and just society for all as leaders, educators and organizers, women have been at the forefront of movements for suffrage, equal opportunity, and reproductive freedoms, but also in the abolitionist, industrial labor, civil rights, and peace movements; and
WHEREAS, Women of every race, class, and ethnic background have made historic contributions to the growth and strength of the state of Washington in countless recorded and unrecorded ways; and
WHEREAS, Women have served our country courageously in all branches of the military; and
WHEREAS, Transgender women in the state of Washington have led, and continue to lead, movements to break down barriers for the 2SLGBTIA+ community; and
WHEREAS, Women have played, and continue to play, critical economic, cultural and social roles in every sphere of life in the state of Washington by constituting a significant portion of the labor force; and
WHEREAS, Despite these contributions, women have been consistently overlooked and undervalued in the literature, teaching and study of American history; and
WHEREAS, The celebration of women’s history is also an acknowledgment of the work that must continue to be done and a call to action to ensure that future generations inherit a world where gender equity is not a goal but a reality; and
WHEREAS, Women's History Month is celebrated throughout the United States during the month of March;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Bob Ferguson, governor of the State of Washington to hereby proclaim March 2025 as Women's History Month in Washington, and I urge all people in our state to join me in this special observance.
ABOUT THE WASHINGTON STATE WOMEN’S COMMISSION
The Washington State Women’s Commission (WSWC) is an executive branch cabinet agency in the Office of Governor Bob Ferguson serving as the primary voice in government for Washington women and girls. Signed into law in 2018, WSWC aims to improve the well-being of women by identifying and developing policies to remove systemic barriers and address critical issues that disproportionately impact women, including childcare access and affordability, domestic and gender-based violence, equal pay, and intersectional inequities.
