Senator Nikki Torres Appointed as Legislative Advisor to the Women's Commission

04/14/2025

The Washington State Women’s Commission is excited to welcome Senator Nikki Torres as its newest legislative advisor—marking the first new legislator appointed to the Commission since 2021.

Senator Torres represents the 15th legislative district in the Washington State Senate, which includes parts of Adams, Benton, Franklin, Grant and Yakima counties. She has served in the senate since January of 2023 and is currently the Republic Deputy Floor Leader. While Sen. Torres is based in Pasco, the Tri-Cities were drawn out of district 15 in 2024 when a federal court ordered redistricting in Central Washington.

Sen. Torres attended Pasco High School and has since dedicated much of her time to communities in Tri-Cities and the greater Mid-Columbia region. She was previously the president of the Tri-Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and a Pasco City councilmember. Currently, Sen. Torres serves on the Washington Childcare Collaborative Task Force and the Kennewick Police Department Foundation and holds board positions for Tri-Cities Community Health and Visit Tri-Cities.

Some of the Senator’s priorities include progressing agriculture, economic development, education and the advancement of the diverse communities in Central Washington.

"I am truly honored to join the Washington State Women's Commission,” said Torres. “As a first-generation Latina, I am excited to bring a fresh perspective that will contribute to and strengthen the important work the Commission is doing to uplift and empower women across the state."

The Women’s Commission is advised by four state legislators—one from each major party in both the House and Senate—who serve two-year terms. Sen. Torres replaces former house representative Ann Rivers who resigned from the legislature in 2024.

Welcome, Senator Torres—your voice and leadership are a powerful addition to the table.

ABOUT THE WASHINGTON STATE WOMEN’S COMMISSION

The Washington State Women’s Commission (WSWC) is an executive branch cabinet agency in the Office of Governor Bob Ferguson serving as the primary voice in government for Washington women and girls. Signed into law in 2018, WSWC aims to improve the well-being of women by identifying and developing policies to remove systemic barriers and address critical issues that disproportionately impact women, including childcare access and affordability, domestic and gender-based violence, equal pay, and intersectional inequities.
