Spring 2024 Plenary Meeting Recap
Washington State Women’s Commission staff and commissioners convened in Moses Lake at the end of April for our quarterly plenary meeting.
Learnings
Every plenary meeting includes presentations from organizations and agencies working on behalf of women and girls in Washington State. During this session we received updates and information from the following presenters:
- Moses Lake Community Health Center - Sheila Bershauer, Chief Executive Officer & Esperanza Tafoya, Clinic Manager
- Equity in Education Coalition - Early Learning Policy & Coalition Manager, WSWC Commissioner Andrea Carrillo
- American Association of American Women, Washington – Jodi Forsell, Programs Director
WSWC Updates
Each member of our staff provided updates on our work since the last plenary meeting on January 5th, 2024. We discussed our successes from the 2024 legislative session, the addition of a new team member and expansion of our communications, and laid out our upcoming priorities for the next quarter and fiscal year.
Commission Changes
After Commission Chair Quinn Dalan adjourned the meeting, staff and commissioners presented outgoing Commissioner Rituja Indapure with an award for her work on behalf of Washington’s women and girls. Commissioner Indapure is our longest-serving commissioner with over 6 years on the WSWC from its foundation in 2018.
The deadline to apply and fill opening commission spots has passed. However, WSWC accepts applications year-round.
ABOUT THE WASHINGTON STATE WOMEN’S COMMISSION
The Washington State Women’s Commission, created by the Washington State Legislature in 2018, aims to improve the well-being of women by identifying and developing policies to remove systemic barriers and address critical issues that disproportionately impact women, including childcare access and affordability, domestic and gender-based violence, equal pay, and intersectional inequities.
