Last week, the Women’s Commissioners and staff gathered for an inspiring and productive Summer Plenary Retreat at the McMenamins Anderson School in Bothell.

The Washington State Women’s Commission (WSWC) regularly hosts public meetings each quarter to stay in touch with constituents across Washington. These meetings serve as a platform to discuss ongoing projects, align on priorities, and address issues impacting each commissioner’s communities. However, this summer’s plenary meeting was truly one-of-a-kind. Spanning two days, the retreat provided an extended period of collaboration and focus, with one full day dedicated entirely to crafting our 2025-2027 Strategic Plan.

Day 1:

Commissioners Quinn Dalan, Riddhi Mukhopadhyay, and WSWC Staff Erin Beck

Executive Director Grace Yoo

The first day was packed with updates from the chairs of each of our three committees dedicated to women’s health, safety, and economic security & opportunity, highlights of engagement over the last several months, and meeting with our new Policy Advisor in the Office of the Governor. One of the most exciting moments was welcoming one of our three new commissioners aboard (more details to come!).

Day 2:

Commissioner Anna Franklin & Leg Affairs Manager Leah White work on Strategic Plan

Commissioner Chris Kobdish

The second day of the retreat was all about strategy. We were joined by a team member from Results Washington, who brought their expertise in strategic planning to help us refine our approach for the coming years. The day began with a grounding values exercise, where each commissioner and staff member identified five core values they see as pillars of the WSWC’s vision, mission, and goals. This exercise laid the foundation for our discussions, By the end of the day, the team aligned on three key goals for our 2025-2027 Strategic Plan and identified strategies we are currently employing as well as new approaches to achieve them.
