Help Drive Our Work: Learn More About our Subject-Matter Committees!

06/27/2025

The Washington State Women’s Commission (WSWC) has three active committees: Health, Safety, & Economic Wellbeing. This year, we are adding a brand-new Fundraising committee. These groups are essential to our mission: ensuring that the voices and needs of women, especially those from historically excluded communities, are reflected in state policy and programs. We’d love for you to join us and help drive this work forward!

Who Can Apply: We welcome Washingtonians whose lived experience or professional expertise aligns with one or more of the committee focus areas. You do not need formal credentials or policy background to apply.
We especially encourage applications from people whose voices are often left out of decision-making spaces—across race, ethnicity, age, ability, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic background, and geographic location. See the committee descriptions below for more details.

What to Expect: All committee members are expected to attend a monthly one-hour virtual meeting. In addition, members can expect 3-5 hours a month contributing in any of these ways:

  • Share subject matter knowledge or lived experience.
  • Assist with research, data collection, or listening sessions.
  • Raise awareness on issues and engage communities.
  • Help identify policy priorities or gaps in services.
  • Assist in drafting and providing testimony on bills.
  • Collaborate to brainstorm funding sources for activities that may have associated costs.

Health Committee

We're looking for committee members with lived experience or expertise informing their understanding of how women in Washington State are influenced by their access to health services, how these services are provided, and various environmental and public health conditions affecting their communities.

The mission of this committee is to secure critical access to women's healthcare through the following priorities:

  • Addressing maternal health outcomes.
  • Protecting access to reproductive autonomy and care.
  • Establishing equitable behavioral and mental health services.

Co-chairs:
Commissioner Anna Franklin, Executive Director Health Equity/Environmental Stewardship, Providence Central Division
Commissioner Yolanda King-Lowe, Secretary Treasurer, SEIU Healthcare 1199NW

Safety Committee

We aim to include committee members with lived experience or expertise informing their understanding of the social, cultural, and institutional barriers women and girls experience in accessing safety, specifically involving gender-based violence.

The mission of this committee is to ensure safety for all women through the following priorities:

  • Addressing gender-based violence, including domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking.
  • Establishing safe community initiatives, including safe use of technology & preventing gun violence.
  • Addressing the epidemic of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls.

Co-chairs:
Commissioner Riddhi Mukhopadhyay, Executive Director, Sexual Violence Law Center
Commissioner Quinn Dalan, Executive Director, Central WA Legal Aid

Economic Well-Being Committee

We aim to include committee members with lived experience or expertise informing their understanding of the foundations that contribute to the economic well-being of girls, women, their families, and their communities.

The mission of this committee is to promote economic security and opportunity for all women through the following priorities:

  • Strengthening preventative policies and practices for gender-based workplace harassment and discrimination.
  • Building supportive and accessible systems for family care and education.
  • Ensuring equitable employment opportunity, career advancement, and compensation.

Co-chairs:
Commissioner Chris Kobdish, Chief Strategy Officer, Unity Care NW
Commissioner Andrea (Dre) Carrillo, Early Learning Policy Associate, Equity in Education Center

Fundraising Committee

In 2025, the Washington State Legislature passed HB 1012, expanding the authority of the Women’s Commission to solicit gifts, grants, and endowments from public and private institutions for the benefit and use of the Commission. Amid a statewide budget shortfall, this new authority allows the Commission to diversify its resources and continue advancing initiatives that support the well-being of women, girls, and their communities.

We are seeking committee members with lived experience or expertise in fundraising, grant writing, and/or donor engagement to help establish and lead our newest committee.

Chair:
Commissioner Malia Razzaia, Executive Director, Dress for Success Seattle

ABOUT THE WASHINGTON STATE WOMEN’S COMMISSION

The Washington State Women’s Commission (WSWC) is an executive branch cabinet agency in the Office of Governor Bob Ferguson serving as the primary voice in government for Washington women and girls. Signed into law in 2018, WSWC aims to improve the well-being of women by identifying and developing policies to remove systemic barriers and address critical issues that disproportionately impact women, including childcare access and affordability, domestic and gender-based violence, equal pay, and intersectional inequities.
