Who We Are
The Washington State Women’s Commission consists of 13 members who help guide the agency in ensuring the needs of women and girls are reflected in state policies and priorities.
Our Commissioners
Our nine voting Commissioners are volunteers from across the state who work to bridge the gap between those who have been historically excluded from state decision-making, and the lawmakers and state agencies who can address their needs.
The Governor’s Office considers nominations for Commissioners with the goal of creating a group that reflects the diversity of Washington—across geography, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability identity, age, income level, and profession. Commissioners serve at the Governor’s discretion and must apply to be formally reappointed by the Governor to serve more than three years.
Our Legislative Advisors
Four members of our Commission are non-voting legislators who serve in an advisory role. Two are members of the House of Representatives (one from each major political party), and are appointed by the House leadership. Two are members of the State Senate (one from each major political party), who are appointed by the Senate leadership. Legislative members serve two-year terms and are replaced if they leave the Legislature.
