Community Engagement
Building the support and resources needed to improve the lives of every woman and girl in Washington State.
From Lived Experience to Lasting Change
Established at the intersection of government and community, the Washington State Women’s Commission exists to ensure the needs of women and girls are reflected in and prioritized by the government that serves them. By listening, documenting, and elevating real stories, we bridge women’s experiences with the systems that shape their daily lives.
One example of this work is our ongoing Your Stories campaign. In this series, women from across Washington share their lived experiences navigating urgent and complex challenges, including layoffs and economic instability, barriers to healthcare access and rising bias against their communities. These stories inform policy, influence decision-makers, and help create solutions grounded in real experiences.
Your support makes this work possible.

Community Engagement Committee
The Community Engagement Committee leads the Commission’s strategy for building support and resources to sustain our mission. Drawing on their diverse professional and lived experiences, committee members shape an ethical and thoughtful approach to fundraising—one that ensures the Commission does not compete with community-based organizations and nonprofits for vital funds.
Committed to transparency at every stage, the committee helps expand awareness, connect with women and girls, and strengthen the long-term sustainability of the Commission’s work.

CONTEXT
Authority to Solicit Funds
In 2025, the Washington State Legislature passed HB 1012, expanding the authority of the Women’s Commission to solicit gifts, grants, and endowments from public and private institutions for the benefit and use of the Commission. Amid a statewide budget shortfall, this new authority allows the Commission to diversify its resources and continue advancing initiatives that support the well-being of women, girls, and their communities.
